The allure of magical Minorca means that it is an absolutely perfect destination for the sailing trip of your dreams. When you are looking to add some spice to your life there is a lot to be said for heading here to enjoy some good times.

If you want to discover the best that this island has to offer then you will need to choose an itinerary that suits you. This warm and pleasant Mediterranean island has some spectacular towns and ports, so you will be spoiled for choice.

Mahon

The giant natural harbour in the capital of Minorca makes it a fantastic spot to start off your sailing adventure on a bareboat charter. Since you are likely to arrive here if you are flying to the Balearics, it makes sense to charter your boat here and get started in style.

Don’t forget to set aside a day or two for exploring this fine city. You will find great food and a friendly atmosphere that puts you in the right frame of mind for your trip.

Ciutadella

It is a relatively short sail from Mahon along the south coast to Ciutadella but you might want to make an overnight stop in a quiet port along the way. There are plenty of mooring options here and access is easy, although it does get very busy during the summer months.

This charming town in the west of the island used to be the capital of Minorca but now has a laid-back feel that you will love. It is a beautifully preserved old town that is easy to explore due to its small size.

Fornells

As you sail along the north coast of Menorca you will see how the land changes, with interesting rock formations and caves to look out for. A nice place to stop here is Fornells, which is an attractive fishing village set in a deep bay.

One of the biggest reasons for stopping here is to enjoy its famous seafood dishes, with lobster especially popular in Fornells. The local population only numbers about 1000, but its incredible popularity with sailors sees it become very lively in the hottest months of the year.

See the Rest of the Balearic Islands

Once you have enjoyed a trip around the delightful island of Minorca you may be tempted to go on and sail the rest of the Balearic Islands. If you have the time to do so then this is a marvelous way of seeing more terrific sights.

Majorca is the biggest island in the group, while Ibiza has a lot more to offer than just its famous party scene. Add in the smaller Balearic Islands and you have the kind of area where you could sail for months and see something different every single day.
