There’s no doubt about it, some people love the winter crispness of Christmas, the manic Christmas shopping and the melee of social events that swamp the season. For others, escaping to warmer climes is the ultimate Christmas break. And why not? We say it doesn’t make you Scrooge, it makes you sensible. And here’s why Christmas on Tenerife is one of the best escaping options of all…
It’s Christmas made easy
Head to any one of Tenerife’s huge choice of hotels and sit back and relax: Christmas dinner is taken care of (and the washing up, for that matter). That leaves you free to kick back and enjoy the long days of Christmas without having to lift a finger. Except, perhaps, to unwrap a few gifts. Oh, it’s a hard life…
You get all the traditional trimmings
Maybe you’re up for listening to carol singers and admiring twinkling Christmas lights, but just don’t want to do in in the damp and chilly cold? Take yourself along to any of Tenerife’s towns or cities like Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, La Laguna or Santa Cruz and you’ll still have the lovely Christmas atmosphere to enjoy, but the temperature will be in the much-more-pleasant late-60s.

You can sunbathe on Christmas Day
Speaking of pleasant temperatures, what a welcome change from the norm it would be to luxuriate on a beach on Christmas Day. Perhaps you’ll even head home with a glowy complexion ready to start the new year rested and rejuvenated from Christmas on the beach.
Swap Christmas pudding for turrón
Turrón is a traditional Spanish Christmas food. These delicious slices of sweetness come in a variety of flavours but are essentially an almond and honey based cake. The most traditional version is yema tostada, don’t leave the island without sampling a piece.

Enjoy a memorable and magical Christmas night
If you love the music of the Christmas season, Santa Cruz holds a free concert beside the port every Christmas Day night and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra perform. Definitely not one to miss.
