Advantages of planning you holiday with spontaneity

Planning my holidays is one thing that I really enjoy. During the past years I was the kind of traveler that would organize and book a trip well in advance. Νowadays I am being more spontaneous and I book a lot of my trips the last-minute.

I have discovered that by booking a trip, just days before the departure date has a lot of benefits.

If I book a trip months in advance I feel very excited at first but as the days pass and the departure date is still far, I start to feel miserable. Then when the date for me to pack and leave arrives my excitement has substantially diminished.

When I know that I can take a few days off I love to browse on the net and find out what the latest deals are and pick the one that suits me better. By doing that my next destinations is a surprise. Doesn’t that sound exciting?

Another advantage of a late booking, as long as you are flexible with your destination, is that you can save a lot of money. The travel agents prefer to have the rooms full than empty so in order to achieve that they offer a lot of last-minute deals.

When booking  last-minute you can be certain of the weather forecast and not just cross your fingers and wish that the weather is going to be good. You can also avoid any kind of strikes that will affect your journey.

On the other hand if you are planning to go on a specific destination and you want to stay in a specific hotel or you are going at the other side of the world where maybe a visa is required then it’s preferable that you book in advance. This article from the Guardian will help you decide when is the best time to book a holiday in order to find the best deal.

Deciding how to travel depends on your character as well.  If you are an adventurous person who loves to explore new places likes surprises and can adjust easily then spontaneous travel is for you. On the other hand  if you are a person that doesn’t like surprises and isn’t flexible on the dates and destinations then advanced booking is more appropriate for you.

By being spontaneous I have recently traveled to the Canary Islands, Crete and Santorini.

What kind of traveler are you? Do you take spontaneous trips or do you love planning?
