I recently wrote an article about a lesser known side of Greece, its therapeutic thermal springs. The past weekend I was very happy to enjoy a luxury weekend in a unique place with great friends and good food. I am talking of course about Thermae Sylla Spa Wellness Hotel located in Edipsos, a town famous for its therapeutic thermal springs.  The main reason I visited the hotel was to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Travel Bloggers Greece, a group of travel bloggers that like to share their passion for Greece and travels with the rest of the world.

Where is Thermae Sylla Spa and Wellness Hotel

This 5 star property is located in the seaside town of Edipsos in the island of Evia in Greece. The town of Edipsos has been famous since antiquity for its therapeutic thermal springs. People from Greece and all over the world come to Edipsos to take advantage of its healing waters that are ideal for people suffering from afflictions of the musculature system and dermatological problems. Not only, the healing waters are also perfect for beauty treatments . I loved the way my hair and skin looked just after a weekend at the spa.

How to get to Edipsos

By Car: You can reach Edipsos from any town of Greece by getting to the seaside town of Arkitsa and taking the boat to Edipsos. There is an alternative route through Halkida where you cross the bridge that connects Evia island with the  mainland and then you follow the signs to North Evia and Edipsos. Although this route is very scenic there are a lot of turns and I don’t recommend it if you get dizzy easily.  The distance between Athens and Edipsos is 150 km. The ferry ride is approximately 30 minutes. For the ferry timetable click here. If you are coming from Thessaloniki or Northern Greece you can take the boat from Glyfa/ Agiokampos. For the ferry timetable click here.

By Bus: You can take the ktel bus from Athens Liosion station that goes to Edipsos. Depending on the season, buses for Edipsos leave between 3 and 5 times a day. There are direct buses to Edipsos from various other Greek cities in the summer. Ask the local bus depot for more information. All buses take the ferry route. For information about the Ktel bus click here.

The Hotel

Thermae Sylla Spa and Wellness Hotel is a 5 star property located on a neoclassical building built-in 1897 that enjoys incredible views of the Evoikos Bay. In its rich history many famous guests  including Maria Callas, Aristotle Onassis, Omar Sharif, Winston Churchill  have enjoyed its services. Since then the hotel has been renovated and more wings have been built. It has a wide range of rooms and suites some looking at the sea and some at the swimming pool and the town. Other amenities include 3 restaurants and 3 bars some of which are only open during the summer months.  There are also conference facilities available, an underground parking, a kids room, a ping-pong and billiards room, a bridge room and a mini market. There is also an outdoor swimming pool with half thermal – half sea water that has 28º to 30º  constant temperature throughout the year. Inside the spa building there is an impressive pool with thermal water at a temperature of 32º C with a constant flow of thermal spring water as is the outdoor pool. It is very impressive that every night they empty and clean the outdoor pool and then refill it in the morning. Apart from the many spa and medical treatments available that I will tell you about in another post, there is also a fully equipped gym available for the guests. Exactly what one expects from a 5 star hotel.

The Room

My room was at the 3rd floor of the new wing. It was very spacious and had all the modern amenities  you would expect from a 5 star hotel (mini bar, safe, big wardrobe, a satellite Tv, an air condition). The double bed was very comfortable and the pillows and linen very soft and luxurious.  For me the quality of the bed is one of the most important factors of a hotel stay.I didn’t want to get up from this one! A little welcome gesture of bottled water and fresh fruit was waiting for me on the table, which was a homely touch.  My room also had a small balcony with great views of the sea. Throughout the hotel free wi-fi was available.

The marbled bathroom was also spacious with a walk in shower and a wide variety of toiletries. Apart from the shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion; a saving kit, a hygiene kit and a dental kit was also available. A comfy bathrobe and a pair of slippers were also offered. I should also mention how clean everything was and how helpful was the hotel maid.

Food

During my stay I had the chance to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. I should start by telling how much I enjoyed breakfast. It was one of the best I had recently. There was a choice of fresh bread, pastries, cakes, fruits, yoghurt, cereal, cooked breakfast and many more. I loved the home-made marmalades that were available and the freshly squeezed orange juice.  Our lunch was buffet style and again there was a big variety to choose from and all dishes were very fresh and tasty. Dinner was served with fresh salad, greek appetizers and 3 main courses to choose including a fresh fish option. All the desserts I tried on the weekend were great. The highlight was a chocolate cake the hotel made especially for our 1 year anniversary. So delicious.

My stay at Thermae Sylla Spa & Wellness hotel was an absolute delight. What made the experience so unique for me was the incredible staff. They were all very helpful and polite that made you feel like you were at home and not at a faceless hotel. If you are looking for a luxurious stay that will rejuvenate both body and mind Thermae Sylla is the place to go.
